Dean Vreugdenhil is a forward for the football club WVF and has already scored three league goals. In the last cup match against BAS (a 0-3 win), he also scored a great free kick into the top corner. In short, things are going well for the 18-year-old Zwolle native in the first team of the soccer club of Westenholte.

And how do you evaluate your own performances after five league matches? “I’ve scored three goals myself. That’s what the coach expects of me. Get involved in the game, make runs, and create opportunities. And of course, score goals. Last season I scored eleven, now I want to score at least fifteen.” You are the top scorer for WVF, what kind of forward are you? “I’m a technical player, I can take on defenders one-on-one and I’m good in combination play. Furthermore, I rely on my speed and creativity. What can be improved? My right foot and I need to gain more experience.”

Usually, I play as a right winger so I can cut inside with my left foot and make actions. Occasionally, I play as a number ten, but I can also play on the left side. Actually, I don’t have a real preference. Are you actually a true WVF player? “Not really. I was born in Germany and played football at FC Wegberg-Beeck until I was twelve. We then moved to Zwolle and that’s how I ended up at WVF.

My goal is to move up as quickly as possible and make the step up, precisely because I’m still so young. That way, I can learn a lot more and gain more experience. Moving up can also happen at WVF, for now.” What do you know about the Salverda Top Scorers Trophy? “I definitely know about it. I always followed the standings and now even more since I’m in it. In any case, it seems like a nice prize to win.”
